The Case for Action-Oriented E-Learning
Abstract
Constructivist theories and modern pedagogical concepts like action-orientation emphasize that an activation of students is one of the most influential factors for learning effectiveness. The implementation of those educational concepts in E-Learning or distance learning contexts is a rather difficult challenge. Systems which assist teachers in this intention are required. In this article, criteria for systems supporting action-oriented E-Learning are developed. The focus is laid on students solving tasks and observing and critiquing this solution process, instead of merely assessing the end-product of learning processes. CleverPHL, a capture & replay tool which allows to record, store and replay action sequences is presented and discussed in detail against the criteria for action-oriented E-Learning systems.
